Russian tour operators note general increase in interest in Iran tourism

Last year, Iran and Russia introduced a visa-free exchange programme that allows travellers in tour groups to visit each other's countries without the need for a visa. This initiative attracted more interest from Iranian travellers.

By the end of 2023, nearly 29.5 thousand Iranian travellers visited Russia, while about 10.7 thousand travelled from Russia to Iran.

Efforts are underway to further boost tourism from Russia, with authorities working to allow payment with Mir cards in Iran. This will simplify financial transactions for Russian travellers and improve their travel experience in the country. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

As for aviation, Russia is expanding air links with Iran by issuing additional permits for direct flights to various destinations in the country.

Russian tour operators have noted a general increase in interest in Iran. As Iran seeks to position itself as a popular tourist destination, these developments indicate progress in strengthening ties between the two countries and creating opportunities for cultural exchange and tourism.

Last year, more than six million foreign tourists visited Iran by air, road and sea. Iran also recently cancelled visa requirements for citizens of 32 countries in an effort to facilitate tourism and strengthen international relations.
