South Africa opens centre for clinical research on medications for tuberculosis and cancer
Officials act according to the South African Research Infrastructure Roadmap
The University of Pretoria and other academic partners, along with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, are commemorating the inaugural inauguration of a nuclear medicine research infrastructure facility. This is reported by Pretoria News, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to the official statement, the facility will be located in the Academic Hospital in Tshwane and will promote drug development, clinical research, and the advanced diagnosis and treatment of cancer, tuberculosis, and other major diseases that burden public health.
Speaking at a presentation held at the University of Pretoria, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, said that the institution provides a centralised location for medical imaging services with a focus on clinical research using imaging and medication development.
It is one of the 13 research infrastructure facilities established by the Department of Science and Innovation in compliance with the South African Research Infrastructure Roadmap, the source claims.
