Tasmac opens, huge queue wearing mask

With the State govern-ment permitting liquor shops to resume busi-nessm in some part of Tamil Nadu, Tasmacs witnessed long queues with most of the consum-ers standing in line since 8 am, today.

As part of social distancing measures, liquor shops had marked circles for at least 100 meters from their shops to maintain a distance of one or two metres between those in the queue. Presence of adequate personnel, erecting of bar-ricades and maintaining social distancing are part of the police" bandobast plans for the TASMAC outlets.

At every Tasmac shop, policemen welt deployed to control the rush and ensure that consumers maintained social distance and not to create any disturbance. Policemen cautioned the booze lovers that there would be no liquor given if there was no mask, almost every consumer wore a mask or handkerchief.

With a surge of booze lovers expected to hit the staterun TASMAC outlets on Thursday, police announced age-specific time slots for the sale of liquor as a crowd control measure in these COVID-19 times. Accordingly, liquor for people aged over 50 years will be sold from 10 am to 1 pm, while those between 40-50 years can visit the retail outlets from 1 pm to 3 pm.

Price hike On Wednesday, the price revision was being effected following a 15 per cent increase in excise duty on Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), an official release here said. Accordingly, the rate of a normal brand of 180 ml of IMFL will go up by Rs 10, while premium ones will see a price in-crease of Rs 20, it said.
