U Htein Lin Myanmar Union Minister for Information: Media cooperation can strengthen ties between BRICS and Global South

Cooperation in media, information exchange and digital technologies can play a key role in strengthening economic and humanitarian ties between BRICS countries and the Global South, according to U Htein Lin Myanmar Union Minister for Information.

He shared this view in an exclusive interview at the TV BRICS studio in the Roscongress International Cooperation Area at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). According to the minister, Myanmar places great importance on expanding global cooperation.

“Myanmar constantly prioritises cooperation with BRICS member countries and the Global South in various fields. Cooperation in the media, information exchange, and digital technology is a key driving force in building stronger economies and humanitarian ties between our countries,” U Htein Lin said.

He noted that closer interaction among media organisations can contribute to greater mutual understanding, trust and friendship between nations, while also helping audiences gain a more accurate picture of the partner countries.

“I believe that the information exchange in the media sector between BRICS member countries including Russia will promote relations between the countries as well as understanding among people more. [...] Collaborative efforts in the media and information sector can enhance trust and friendship among the public and directly introduce the true situations, developments, and cultural heritages of our countries to other nations,” he stated.

The minister emphasised that cooperation between broadcasters, news agencies and other media organisations could facilitate the exchange of professional expertise, technological knowledge and content production practices.

"Through jointly conducting skills training, scholarship programmes and workshops in the fields of information technology (IT) and media sector, we will be able to produce highly qualified human resources for Myanmar's media and digital sector," he claimed.

He also highlighted the importance of joint television and radio programmes, documentaries and cultural projects, which can strengthen people-to-people ties and promote a deeper understanding of national traditions, histories and lifestyles.
