UAE Minister of Economy emphasises commitment to sustainable aviation growth amid climate challenges
The UAE is keen to actively participate in addressing climate challenges
Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy, has reiterated the country's commitment to ensuring sustainable growth in the aviation industry. He emphasised the importance of aviation in bringing people together and supporting economies and communities around the world. This is reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.
"It's also one of the most challenging sectors to decarbonise. Aviation accounts for 2.5% of global CO2 emissions, but has contributed around 4% of global warming to date," said the minister.
To achieve significant change, the minister called for collective efforts from governments and the private sector, emphasising the need for financing and infrastructure development.
UAE is actively moving towards a low-carbon economic model where aviation plays a key role.
Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri also noted that the UAE has become one of the first countries to adopt a sustainable development agenda and is actively participating in international negotiations to support aviation sustainability. The country aims to become a regional hub for low-carbon aviation fuel, with plans to produce up to 700 million litres per year by 2030, reducing CO2 emissions by 4.8 million tonnes.
