A Russian Man Recovered from Coma Shocked at the World Changed by Coronavirus

A Moscow resident spent two months in coma

A Moscow resident spent two months in coma and having recovered, was shocked at how the world has changed. The patient’s wife and his attending physician told journalists about the incident.

The man was hospitalized on March 6, operated, but a week later, the patient sank into a coma. At the time, information about coronavirus was already in news, but the virus had not extended across Russia and sounded like something far-away. "And during its outbreak in Moscow, he actually was not here", the patient's wife said.

Almost two months later, the man recovered and opened eyes. The wife could not visit him, communication was possible only by phone by means of video, but he was still weak, being only able to blink or nod in reply. Nothing was said to the patient about coronavirus, lest he got stressed.

But at some point, the man tried to get to know what was happening. "He got up by himself, came to my office door, knocked and said: "Can I talk to you? I have many questions. What is happening in the world? And where is my wife?" the attending physician says.

Then they told the man that all the time he was in coma, strict rules were introduced in the country to prevent the spread of coronavirus. "I am telling him time after time, what is going on: that people began to go for a walk, though before, they were allowed only to go to a shop. Well, of course, I see wide opened eyes and a shock: could it even be so?" the patient's wife said.
