Trade in agricultural products between Russia and member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) increased by 17 per cent in 2025, reflecting the strengthening of economic ties and growing cooperation in the agro-industrial sector, reports Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

The figures were announced during the 11th Meeting of Agriculture Ministers of SCO member states, held in the Kyrgyz capital, where delegations discussed the development of agriculture, food security and scientific and technological collaboration.

The Russian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Maksim Markovich, who highlighted the steady expansion of agricultural trade within the SCO framework. According to him, Russian agricultural exports to SCO countries rose by 12 per cent last year, contributing to the overall growth in trade turnover.

Agriculture continues to play a central role in the economies of SCO member states. Expanding trade in agricultural goods is seen as a key factor in ensuring access to affordable and diverse food supplies for populations across the region.

Russia has significantly strengthened its position in global agricultural markets in recent years, emerging as one of the leading exporters of food products. The country also contributes to global food security through international cooperation and humanitarian initiatives.

Participants at the meeting underscored the importance of deepening cooperation in education, research and innovation. Particular attention was given to advancing scientific and technical partnerships, including collaboration in plant breeding and seed production.

As a result of the discussions, ministers signed a joint protocol outlining priorities for future cooperation, alongside agreements aimed at strengthening collaboration in agricultural science and technology.
