Moscow to host open Russian language lesson for foreigners from BRICS+ countries

An open lesson for foreigners learning Russian will take place on 8 June 2026 at the BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre in Moscow. The event is expected to bring together university students and members of the Russian Club Inostranka, a project of the M. I. Rudomino All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature aimed at supporting the socio-cultural adaptation of foreign citizens in Russia.

The session will review the initial results of training undertaken by representatives of BRICS+ countries through the television series "Russian Lessons with Tanya Semke", produced by the TV BRICS International Media Network. The programme’s creator and presenter, Tatyana Semke, an author of educational programmes in teaching Russian as a Foreign Language (RFL), has prepared engaging tests, interactive exercises and other game-based forms of knowledge assessment for participants. The open lesson will begin at 18:00 Moscow time.

“Promotion of the Russian language by TV BRICS encompasses a comprehensive range of activities that make it possible to carry out this important work on a continuous and multifaceted basis. The creation of educational video and audio content, the organisation of linguistic and cultural television bridges, the publication of popular articles on Russian language rules in open access, methodological materials for teachers of Russian as a Foreign Language, and current philological resources available through the Modern Russian project portal – all this and much more helps meet the interests of a broad audience interested in the Russian language and culture. Interactive classes form part of this effort by providing direct engagement with students who are interested in learning Russian as a foreign language. Language acquisition becomes easier through play, while barriers to oral communication are reduced. We have successfully applied this approach during video meetings with international students. The open lesson at the BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre is a natural continuation of the virtual series 'Russian Lessons with Tanya Semke'. Such classes are beneficial for students studying Russian as a Foreign Language and help them move more quickly from theory to practice, facilitating a more comfortable transition to fluent speech,” said Tamara Skok, PhD in Philology, Director of the Department for Innovative Linguistic Projects at TV BRICS and Head of the  "Modern Russian" international project of TV BRICS.

The "Russian Lessons with Tanya Semke" series was launched in March 2025. The first video course consists of 99 episodes presented in a light and engaging format, enabling foreign learners to understand and master the Russian language more effectively. The programme is broadcast every Tuesday and Thursday on the English-language TV BRICS channel and on the corresponding language version of the media network’s portal. By completing the full course, learners can become familiar with the fundamentals of Russian grammar, learn to read in Russian and build a vocabulary for everyday communication.

The TV BRICS educational television project has already been broadcast by the media network’s partners in South Africa (Durban TV and BRICS Africa Channel) and Egypt (Sada El-Balad portal and television channel).
