Bolivia launches satellite platform to strengthen forest monitoring

The new system uses high-resolution satellite data to track changes in vegetation cover and support environmental management

Bolivia has launched a platform designed to monitor forest cover changes and provide regularly updated information through high-resolution satellite imagery. Visión 360, a partner of TV BRICS, reported the tool will support environmental monitoring and help improve decision-making related to the conservation of natural ecosystems.

The platform is part of a broader international effort to develop technologies for analysing land use, ecosystems, water resources and environmental changes.

It will provide updated data on changes in vegetation cover, allowing specialists to identify areas affected by land transformation and strengthen monitoring processes. The system combines satellite information, geographic data and scientific analysis to improve understanding of environmental dynamics.

The initiative is based on cooperation between researchers and specialists in remote sensing, data analysis and ecosystem studies. Moreover, Bolivia has joined Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and Indonesia in using the platform.

According to project representatives, the platform will also contribute to the development of national expertise and expand access to reliable environmental information. The monitoring system updates information every two to three weeks, depending on local conditions, enabling more frequent observation of changes in forest areas.

The project also includes plans to expand environmental monitoring capabilities, including the development of tools focused on forest fires and other natural processes. The initiative aims to promote the use of open environmental data to support scientific research, public planning and sustainable management of Bolivia’s natural resources.
