Belarus and Vietnam are actively developing a roadmap to implement their newly established strategic partnership, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Belarus, Nguyen Van Ngu, has said.

Speaking to journalists ahead of a meeting with the Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives, Sergey Rachkov, the ambassador noted that the decision to elevate bilateral relations was taken by the leaders of the two countries in May last year.

“Following the agreement of our national leaders to raise relations to the level of a strategic partnership, both sides are now working intensively on a roadmap to ensure its effective implementation,” he stated.

Nguyen Van Ngu emphasised that priority areas of cooperation include economic development, science and technology, and people-to-people diplomacy.

Sergey Rachkov, in turn, underlined the depth of interparliamentary relations between Belarus and Vietnam. He stressed that Vietnam remains a key partner for Belarus in Southeast Asia, supported by long-standing historical ties and sustained political dialogue.

“We have good trade turnover, and intergovernmental commissions are actively working. Our goods are in demand in Vietnam,” he said, adding that Belarus is interested in expanding access to the Vietnamese market while also welcoming a broader presence of Vietnamese products in Belarus.

The Belarusian parliamentarian also pointed to growing cooperation in education and humanitarian exchanges, supported by regular high-level visits and the work of parliamentary friendship groups. “We are developing very substantial and serious interparliamentary ties with Vietnam. We exchange visits at a high level,” he said, adding that recent negotiations with a Vietnamese parliamentary friendship group focused on enhancing trade, economic and humanitarian collaboration.

Belarus also views Vietnam as an important partner within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union’s free trade agreement with the Southeast Asian nation, which provides additional opportunities for expanding economic collaboration.

According to BelTA, a partner of TV BRICS, future plans include reciprocal parliamentary visits aimed at advancing previously reached agreements and identifying new areas of collaboration. Emphasising the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, Rachkov noted that strengthening human connections remains essential in today’s rapidly changing world.
