Brazilian and Russian Foreign Ministers exchange views on BRICS cooperation
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira met in Rio de Janeiro on the margins of the upcoming meeting of the BRICS Council of Foreign Ministers. This is reported by the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
It is noted that the parties discussed the schedule of bilateral contacts, including the planned participation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in the celebrations dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
In addition, Lavrov and Vieira reviewed issues of cooperation between Russia and Brazil and the countries' interaction in BRICS, the UN and the G20.
"The mood for further strengthening of the whole range of Russian-Brazilian ties was emphasised," the statement said.
The Brazilian Foreign Ministry also released data after the meeting, according to which the trade turnover between the states at the end of 2024 increased by 9 per cent compared to 2023 and amounted to US$12.4 billion. This is reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS, emphasising that this is a historical record.
It is specified that from January to March this year, the growth was 12 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Earlier, Lavrov arrived in Rio de Janeiro to participate in the BRICS Ministerial Council. The meeting will be held on 28-29 April under the Brazilian presidency. The Ministers will exchange views on a wide range of topical issues on the international agenda and discuss preparations for the XVII summit of the association, which will be held on 6-7 July.
