China unveils advanced research platform to revolutionise sustainable energy development

This holds potential to address global energy needs without the environmental downsides of fossil fuels

China has taken a major leap in nuclear fusion research with the successful development of a high-flux linear plasma generator. This is reported by China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS.

Designed to support the creation of materials critical for the "artificial sun," a fusion-based energy system, the generator boasts cutting-edge capabilities. The device stretches 15.5 metres in length, weighs 22.5 tonnes. Remarkably, it can sustain continuous operation for over 24 hours.

The "artificial sun" is a term for fusion reactors that mimic the sun’s nuclear processes, using elements derived from seawater to produce clean, sustainable energy. These reactors hold potential to address global energy needs without the environmental downsides of fossil fuels.

The development of the generator took over five years. Its successful implementation is expected to advance China’s next-generation fusion reactor research and foster international collaboration in nuclear fusion science, the source claims.
