Vietnam and Brazil outline new priorities for trade and investment cooperation
Bilateral trade reached US$4.22 billion in the first half of 2026, up 16.8 per cent year on year
Vietnam and Brazil are stepping up efforts to deepen bilateral trade and investment cooperation following an economic, trade and investment exchange seminar held in Brazil, reports Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS. The event brought together representatives of government agencies, industry associations and experts to discuss new market opportunities and the future development of bilateral economic relations.
Speaking at the seminar, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi said two-way trade reached US$4.22 billion in the first half of 2026, an increase of 16.8 per cent compared to the same period last year. Brazil's exports to Vietnam exceeded US$2 billion, up 16.6 per cent, while imports from Vietnam totalled approximately US$2.11 billion, marking a 17 per cent rise.
The ambassador noted that Brazil continues to be an important supplier of agricultural products, raw materials and strategic commodities to Vietnam, including soybeans, maize, cotton, meat, pulp, ores and minerals. Vietnam exports mobile phones and components, computers, electronic products, machinery, garments, footwear, wooden products, seafood and processed food to the Brazilian market.
According to Bui Van Nghi, the complementary structure of bilateral trade provides a solid foundation for expanding cooperation in investment, processing, logistics, technology and value chains. He also welcomed the launch of negotiations on a preferential trade agreement between Vietnam and MERCOSUR, highlighting its potential to support further economic cooperation.
The ambassador identified several priorities for future collaboration, including stronger information exchange mechanisms, closer cooperation between Brazilian states and Vietnamese localities, and expanded partnerships in renewable energy, biofuels, logistics, digital transformation, biotechnology and green industry.
