Ethiopia launches major infrastructure upgrade to enhance urban landscape
Ethiopia has announced the launch of the second phase of its corridor development project in Addis Ababa, focusing on modernising infrastructure, enhancing transportation networks, and improving public spaces. This is reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
The initiative, covering 2,879 hectares, aims to transform the capital into a more sustainable and accessible city.
According to a statement from the Office of the Ethiopian Prime Minister, the project includes the construction of 477 km of roads, with 240 km of asphalt roads and 237 km of pedestrian walkways. Additionally, over 200 public recreational areas and parking facilities will be developed to improve urban mobility and quality of life.
To promote environmentally friendly transport, 58 locations across the city will be equipped with electric vehicle charging stations, while more than 100 km of dedicated bike lanes will be introduced. The project also incorporates the construction of 17 sports centres to encourage physical activity and community engagement.
This large-scale initiative is part of broader efforts to position Addis Ababa as a modern urban hub, offering improved infrastructure and amenities that meet the growing needs of its residents.
