Ghana to launch first air quality sensors loan library

The new initiative will broaden access to air quality monitoring tools and support evidence-based environmental decision-making across West Africa

Ghana will launch its first air quality sensors loan library in July, expanding public access to air quality monitoring equipment and strengthening environmental data collection across the country and the wider West African region. This was reported by Ghana News Agency (GNA), a partner of TV BRICS.

The facility will allow individuals, community groups and organisations to borrow calibrated sensors, install them in their local areas and gather air quality information.

Experts noted that preparations to operationalise the library were in their final stages, with more than 100 standardised air quality sensors already available for deployment. The initiative is expected to enhance regional air quality monitoring capacity while providing reliable data to support evidence-based policymaking and environmental governance.

The sensors will provide real-time readings, enabling users to better understand local environmental conditions and make informed decisions based on accurate data.

According to the experts, the initiative would also support local authorities in identifying pollution hotspots and planning targeted responses.
