Leading CIS bakery industry experts to join TV BRICS discussion on food security

The Scientific Research Institute of the Bakery Industry will become an expert platform within the international media network for issues related to healthy nutrition

The Scientific Research Institute of the Bakery Industry (FSASI NIIBP) is joining the discussion on food security and healthy nutrition in the TV BRICS media space. The institute will celebrate its 95th anniversary in September 2026. Leading institute scientists – the basic organisation for training specialised personnel for CIS countries – will provide expert assessments of the production of foods with enhanced nutritional value and outline development priorities for the bakery industry.

A cooperation agreement was signed by Marina Kostyuchenko, Director of the Federal State Autonomous Scientific Institution “Research Institute of the Bakery Industry”, and Janna Tolstikova, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of the TV BRICS International Media Network. The partners’ activities will focus on consolidating the international scientific community in the food industry and developing partnerships between industry associations and bakery enterprises in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

“Today, as always, bread is a source of essential nutrients: proteins, carbohydrates, dietary fibre, vitamins and minerals. At the same time, the content of deficient micro- and macronutrients in bread can be increased, thereby enhancing its nutritional value. It is also important for the range of products to develop towards personalisation. The composition of bread should meet the individual needs of consumers. Such research is being carried out around the world. By becoming part of the TV BRICS media system, we want to join forces with scientists, technologists and industry specialists from BRICS+ countries on joint projects,” said Marina Kostyuchenko, Director of the institute and Candidate of Technical Sciences.

Scientific Research Institute of the Bakery Industry was founded in 1931. The institute’s main tasks are to create and improve the methodological and regulatory framework for bakery production and to disseminate knowledge in the fields of biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry, engineering, economics, ecology and rheology of baking. Particular attention is paid to developing the range and technologies of new types of bread, including functional and specialised products. The institute comprises several research centres: the Centre for Technologies, the Centre for Biotechnology and Microbiological Research, the Centre for Rheology of Food Environments, a testing centre; as well as eight laboratories and a museum collection of industrially valuable microorganisms.

The Director of the institute expressed confidence that colleagues from other countries would, for example, be interested in the institute’s collection of baker’s yeasts and sourdough starters, which enables the development of new types of bread with unique flavours, rich aromas and enhanced nutritional value. “Today, our foreign partners include colleagues from China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Uzbekistan. We seek not only to share our technical and scientific achievements with an international audience but also to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between countries and people on the basis of ‘bread diplomacy’,” Marina Kostyuchenko emphasised.

TV BRICS CEO Janna Tolstikova noted that the international media network is developing in a way that enables experts in different fields not only to follow the current international agenda, but also to establish professional contacts, exchange views and generate new projects aimed at finding solutions to global challenges and responding to contemporary issues. Improving people’s quality of life and ensuring food security remain key priorities today. Therefore, cooperation with the Scientific Research Institute of the Bakery Industry will undoubtedly strengthen the network’s pool of specialised experts and add analytical depth to TV BRICS media content.

To bring together experts from BRICS, SCO and ASEAN countries, the media network’s portal has launched the “Experts” project.

The issue of ensuring food security and grain production is addressed in the “BRICS Grain” documentary series. Experts from the Scientific Research Institute of the Bakery Industry took part in the project, which presents Russian industry expertise to an international audience.
