Projects in field of higher education in Iran to be presented to international public through TV BRICS

International media network and University of Guilan to join forces to develop academic and scientific cooperation between BRICS countries

The Islamic Republic of Iran is enhancing the international standing of its modern education system. Projects of the University of Guilan – the largest higher education centre in northern Iran – will be presented in the TV BRICS media space. A cooperation agreement was signed by President Ali Basti and Janna Tolstikova, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of the TV BRICS International Media Network. The partners’ activities will focus on promoting quality education and advanced achievements in university research, as well as developing cooperation between higher education institutions and research centres in BRICS+ countries.

I regard the signing of this memorandum as the starting point of a new stage of cooperation between the University of Guilan and the scientific and academic community of BRICS+ countries. I hope that, thanks to the international and media capabilities of TV BRICS, the scientific, technological and research achievements of the University of Guilan will receive even wider international coverage and that conditions will be created for the development of joint projects in science, education, technology and culture with universities and research centres of BRICS member and partner countries. The University of Guilan is ready to use these opportunities to develop scientific diplomacy, establish joint networks of interaction between researchers and universities, and create new opportunities for students and faculty members at the international level

President of the University of Guilan

University of Guilan is a public university in Iran. It was founded in 1974. It is located in Rasht, the administrative centre of Gilan Province. Around 15,000 students study at the university. The university comprises 14 faculties, the Research Institute for Guilan Studies and the Caspian Sea Research Institute. Its main fields of study cover the humanities, physical education and sport; chemistry; fundamental and mathematical sciences; agriculture; marine sciences and technology; engineering and technical disciplines; mechanical engineering; natural resources; management and economics; architecture and art. The university maintains scientific and academic ties with a number of foreign higher education institutions and research centres. Cooperation with countries in the Caspian region holds a special place. The Iranian Secretariat of the Association of State Universities of the Caspian Region is also based at the University of Guilan.

Aleksandra Burman, Director of the International Cooperation Department at TV BRICS, noted that the University of Guilan joining the media network’s group of partners would help promote Iran’s specialised achievements internationally. Consolidation on the TV BRICS platform opens up new opportunities for universities to exchange information about professional achievements, helps develop expert communities and encourages the creation of joint projects. Such interaction contributes to the development of comprehensive cooperation between BRICS countries and helps improve people’s quality of life in different regions of the world.

Today, TV BRICS partners in education, science and academia include more than 30 institutions from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Ethiopia, Cuba and Nepal. In 2026 alone, the following institutions joined the international media network’s cooperation programme: the International Competence Centre in Mining Engineering Education, under the auspices of UNESCO, established on the basis of the Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University, the Moscow State Academy of Choreography, the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, Ugra State University (all Russia); the University of Havana (Cuba), Oscar International College film school (Nepal), the University of Gondar (Ethiopia) and the University of Campinas (Brazil).

Earlier in Iran, the University of Tehran began working with the media network. Through media communications, TV BRICS cooperates with a number of the republic’s largest media outlets: Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), news agencies IRNA, Tabnak, NourNews and media company Mehr Media Group.
