Indonesia plans to build 39 new airports
Project aims to expand air connectivity between regions and support economic growth
Indonesia plans to build 39 new airports across the country. The project is expected to expand the national air network, improve connectivity between regions and support more balanced economic development. As reported by Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation at the Indonesian Ministry of Transport, the implementation of the plan will increase the number of airports in the country from 257 to 296.
The Director General of Civil Aviation, Lukman F. Laisa, stated that the expansion of the network reflects the government’s commitment to improving transport links with border areas, remote regions and less developed areas.
The development of airport infrastructure in Indonesia is hampered by the country’s geographical characteristics, as it is considered the world’s largest archipelago. The new airports are to be built in areas of wetlands, peatlands, mountainous regions and small, isolated islands.
Future projects must prioritise safety, sustainability, the use of advanced technologies and the adaptation of infrastructure to climate change. The Ministry of Transport also intends to strengthen the training of aviation professionals, including in the use of artificial intelligence, as well as supporting the attainment of internationally recognised professional certifications.
Experts also highlighted the importance of closer cooperation between government bodies, industry professionals and other stakeholders in the aviation sector.
