Inbound tourism to China surges following UNESCO recognition

Travel platforms also reported a substantial boost in inbound tourism

China has experienced a significant rise in inbound tourism during this year’s Spring Festival, marking the first celebration of the holiday since its inscription on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. This is reported by  China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to China's National Immigration Administration, more than 14.36 million cross-border trips were recorded during the eight-day Spring Festival holiday, reflecting a 6.3 per cent increase from the previous year.

Notably, 958,000 of these trips were made by foreign visitors, representing a 22.9 per cent year-on-year rise. Travel platforms also reported a substantial boost in inbound tourism.

For instance, Xi’an, a historic city in Shaanxi province, emerged as a major attraction for international travellers. The city's entry ports handled 47,000 inbound and outbound trips, with daily passenger traffic soaring by 84 per cent.

Visitors explored landmarks such as the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum, Xi’an Museum, and the ancient City Wall.
