Indonesia to become world’s fourth-largest aviation market by 2030
Government launches new aerospace development strategy amid rapid growth in air travel demand and passenger traffic
Indonesia is expected to become the world’s fourth-largest aviation market by 2030, highlighting the country’s rapidly expanding role in global air transport and aerospace development, reports ANTARA.
The projection was announced by Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita during the signing of a new strategic aviation cooperation initiative in Jakarta. According to data from the International Air Transport Association, Indonesia’s aviation sector is set for major long-term growth driven by rising passenger demand and expanding domestic connectivity.
Officials also cited forecasts from the International Civil Aviation Organisation indicating that domestic air traffic in Indonesia could reach approximately 7.4 million flights and nearly 690 million passengers annually by 2045.
The country's government is now intensifying efforts to strengthen its aerospace ecosystem, focusing on technology transfer, industrial development and workforce training. Authorities say the strategy aims not only to expand aviation capacity but also to increase Indonesia’s participation in the global aerospace supply chain.
According to the source, as the world's largest archipelagic nation, Indonesia relies heavily on air connectivity to support economic integration, regional development and public mobility across thousands of islands. Policymakers emphasise that innovation, operational efficiency and modern aviation infrastructure will be critical to sustaining future growth.
The new initiative also prioritises the development of aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities, alongside strengthening domestic manufacturing capacity and aerospace engineering expertise. Officials hope these measures will position Indonesia as a leading aerospace hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
