Speaker of the Russian Federation Council and President of the People's Republic of China held a meeting in Beijing
On Monday, 10 July, Speaker of the Federation Council (FC) of Russia Valentina Matvienko met with President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping. The delegation of the Russian parliament is currently on a visit to Beijing, as reported by TASS.
The FC Speaker conveyed to the Chinese leader the best wishes of Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the meeting, Matvienko also told the Chinese President that the Russian Federation has reached an absolute consensus at different levels, including the President, the government, and society, on the development of bilateral relations with China.
"We welcome active development in the most diverse spheres of our co-operation," said Matvienko.
According to the FC Speaker, cooperation between Russia and China is gaining more and more public support.
It should be noted that the Russian parliamentarians were invited by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhao Leji, with whom Valentina Matvienko had a meeting the day before. The Speaker of the FC emphasised the important role of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Russia and China and noted that the two countries can be proud of the high level of cooperation they have achieved in recent years.
In addition, the Speaker of the CF stressed that political mutual trust between the countries is deepening, interaction in the international arena is expanding, and practical cooperation is reaching new heights.
During the talks the parties also discussed a number of important issues related to the development of partnership relations between China and the Russian Federation.
President Xi Jinping visited Moscow in March this year. During his official visit, he met with Vladimir Putin. Russia became the first country he came to after his third re-election as head of state.
China and the Russian Federation actively cooperate bilaterally and within the framework of various associations, including BRICS and SCO. The volume of trade turnover between the countries is constantly growing.
