New anti-ageing biopreparation in Kazakhstan secures state grant
Young Kazakh scientist wins 350 million tenge to commercialise antioxidant formula aimed at protecting cardiovascular health
A young researcher in Kazakhstan has developed a natural biopreparation designed to slow cellular ageing and protect the cardiovascular system, securing significant state funding for its commercialisation, as reported by Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS.
Meruert Tolegenkyzy, a 23-year-old engineer at the Laboratory of Physico-Chemical Analysis at Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University, led a year-long research project focused on the antioxidant properties of extracts derived from maral antlers and the medicinal plant known as camel thorn.
The resulting formulation combines biologically active compounds from both natural sources to create a product with antioxidant and preventive effects. According to the researcher, the antioxidants contained in the extracts neutralise harmful substances in the body, helping to reduce oxidative stress and support normal cellular function.
Experts noted that while extracts from maral antlers have long been studied for their biological activity, combining them with camel thorn to produce a biologically active supplement represents a new scientific direction. Maral antlers are known to contain 18 of the 22 amino acids found in nature and are traditionally associated with strengthening immunity, supporting the nervous system and aiding in the prevention of joint and cardiovascular diseases. Camel thorn has also been used in traditional medicine for centuries.
A key focus of the project is addressing the global rise in cardiovascular disease, often linked to atherosclerosis. Its primary molecular mechanism, oxidative stress – the excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen species in the body – can damage cells and tissues. The newly developed preventive product is intended to mitigate these effects by enhancing antioxidant protection.
The product, which has undergone comprehensive research and received state backing, is expected to enter production next year.
