Nigeria adopts digital technology at airports

The new digital visas at the country's major airports are designed to enhance security and simplify entry and exit processes

Nigeria is actively improving its international airports by introducing automation and digitalisation.

From May 2025, the country's airports are planning to introduce electronic boarding passes for international travellers. This is reported by News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a partner of TV BRICS.

Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, explained that travellers must submit their arrival details digitally before their trip, with the system tracking their visa status and allowed stay period.

The programme is aimed at improving service quality and simplifying the collection of passenger information. It is part of a wider strategy to digitise Nigeria's airports, which also includes the introduction of e-visas.

Recently, modern screening devices such as scanners and cameras were installed at the Lagos Murtala Mohammed Airport to improve checks at checkpoints.
