Residents of BRICS+ countries to watch television programmes about Southern Urals
Chelyabinsk TV channel and TV BRICS have agreed to share content and implement joint creative projects
Information and analytical television programmes about Russia’s Chelyabinsk Region will be incorporated into the consolidated BRICS+ media agenda. Regional television channel OTV (Oblastnoe Televidenie JSC) is beginning cooperation with the TV BRICS International Media Network. The partners have agreed to exchange content and implement joint creative projects. Cooperation between TV BRICS and OTV is aimed at strengthening humanitarian ties among BRICS countries, developing professional communities, and expanding opportunities for international cooperation in the field of mass communications.
Starting from 14 June 2026, TV BRICS broadcasting blocks will air on OTV every Sunday. The segment will feature the news programme “BRICSinform”, covering key events and initiatives of the BRICS countries, as well as episodes of the Laboratorium series dedicated to advanced developments and scientific discoveries by Russian researchers. In addition, TV BRICS will provide residents of Chelyabinsk with exclusive media content from its international partners, including ATOMUN, a programme on achievements in science and technology produced by the Latin American television network teleSUR, and “My India”, a project about the life, culture, and traditions of Indian cities produced by South Asia’s leading news agency Asian News International.
“The partnership provides access to exclusive materials about BRICS countries and other states, including reports, documentaries, and analytical programmes. International content increases the diversity and quality of broadcasting. Viewers gain a broader understanding of the world and learn more about the culture and achievements of other countries. International content broadens horizons, improves media literacy, and offers an opportunity to compare the experiences of different countries with regional realities. Cooperation with TV BRICS not only expands OTV’s content capabilities but also turns the channel into a link between regional audiences and global processes, which is particularly valuable at a time of growing interest in BRICS countries and their initiatives,” said Marina Timofeeva, Deputy Director General for Marketing and Television Content at Oblastnoe Televidenie JSC.
The Chelyabinsk Region is part of the Russian Federation’s Ural Federal District. More than 3 million people live in the Southern Urals. It is a major transport hub connected to the entire Eurasian continent. The region’s industrial development is driven by the metallurgical, engineering, fuel and energy, construction, and agro-industrial sectors. Enterprises operating in the region play an important role in the economy of Russia as a whole. The region is rich in natural resources, with around 300 mineral deposits having been explored. The Southern Urals also possess unique natural and climatic conditions that provide a foundation for tourism development. The region is home to 147 specially protected natural areas that preserve the nation’s natural heritage.
Irina Sidorova, Head of the Eurasian Countries Cooperation Division at TV BRICS, noted that authentic content from regional partners brings genuine uniqueness to the consolidated BRICS agenda shaped by the media network. Materials produced by local media outlets make it possible to appreciate the richness of national cultures and gain insight into everyday life in different parts of a country. At the same time, through the TV BRICS information exchange system, regional media gain direct access to content produced by larger national and international editorial teams.
Today, TV BRICS’ regular partners include regional media outlets from Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, India, China, Colombia, Nigeria, Russia, Chile, and South Africa. In Russia, TV BRICS broadcasting blocks are aired by television channels in the Republic of Mordovia (Mordovia 24 and 10 Kanal), the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Ugra (OTRK Ugra), the Republic of Tatarstan (UNIVER TV), and the Nizhny Novgorod Region (Volga 24).
Oblastnoe Televidenie is the regional television channel of the Chelyabinsk Region. It was established in 2003 as a media outlet of the Government of the Chelyabinsk Region. The channel is part of the "First Regional" Media Holding. It broadcasts throughout the entire Chelyabinsk Region and provides media coverage of significant regional events. Its programming includes news bulletins, analytical programmes, interviews, live broadcasts, and thematic projects focusing on social, public, political, and cultural issues. The potential audience of OTV is approximately 3.4 million people.
