Russia announces new air route linking Saint Petersburg and Venezuela
Regular direct flights between Saint Petersburg and Venezuela are set to begin in the upcoming season, following talks between Russian Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin and Venezuela’s Minister of People’s Power for Transport, Ramon Celestino Velasquez.
“An active dialogue is developing between our countries in the field of transport. We greatly value the current level of cooperation and are keen to build on it,” Nikitin said, as quoted on the ministry’s official website.
The meeting also touched on the potential use of Russian expertise in unmanned vessel technology across Venezuela’s civilian sectors, as well as the possibility of Venezuelan students enrolling in Russian transport universities.
At present, direct flights between the two countries operate only from Moscow.
Earlier in September, Venezuela launched a new air route linking South America and Asia via Russia, with flights connecting Caracas to Guangzhou, China, through a stopover in Moscow. Operating twice a month with large-capacity aircraft, the route is considered one of Venezuela’s key international connections.
