Russia expands overseas economic network in Iran, Uzbekistan and Malaysia

Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development has increased its overseas network to cover 47 of its 64 priority countries – just over 70 per cent – with plans to reach at least 80 per cent in the near future, according to Minister Maksim Reshetnikov. 

This year, the ministry has expanded its geographical footprint to eight additional countries, while strengthening existing offices in six others. The overall number of representatives and economic advisers abroad has grown by 21 staff across 21 nations. 

Established in 2021, the foreign representative system has rapidly developed into a functional network supporting Russia’s external trade and economic interests. Notable achievements include the work of Russia’s Permanent Mission to the WTO, as well as reinforced cooperation with Iran. Officials highlighted the benefits expected from the newly implemented free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran, eliminating tariffs on more than 87 per cent of goods traded.

Further progress was reported in industrial cooperation with Uzbekistan, where joint technology parks are being expanded, and in strengthening transport, tourism and investment links with Malaysia, ASEAN’s chair in 2025. 

Ministry representatives said these efforts are already yielding practical results, while continued support from partner nations offers fresh opportunities to grow Russian exports and international business activity.
