Saudi Arabia signs world's largest coral reef restoration project
Initiative aims to conserve, restore and develop 100 hectares of vibrant coral ecosystems in the Red Sea
Saudi Arabia is hosting a coral reef restoration initiative. This collaboration represents the world's largest coral reef restoration programme and is in partnership with NEOM, an ambitious new city project on the north coast of Saudi Arabia.
Ian Campbell, Vice President of KAUST's National Transformation Institute (NTI), one of the founders of the initiative, stressed that the ambitious programme aims to conserve, restore and enhance 100 hectares of vibrant coral ecosystem in the Red Sea, which will serve as a beacon of hope for coral conservation efforts around the world.
KAUST's Coral Restoration Initiative aims to restore and protect the marine environment, setting a precedent for sustainable conservation efforts around the world.
The coral nursery will have around 400 aquariums equipped with advanced coral propagation technologies. This is reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.
As construction progresses, the Primary Coral Nursery will play a critical role in revitalising the Red Sea's natural coral habitat, providing new hope for the future of these critical ecosystems.
