UAE starts marine cage farming project
The Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD) has launched the first marine cage farming project in the emirate, located southeast of Dalma Island. This is reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.
The project, which aims to raise native fish species in floating cage systems, aims to develop environmental protocols for the sustainable farming of marine species in Abu Dhabi as well as reduce pressure on wild fish populations.
The initiative will help cater to the growing demand for seafood products and implement advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence to manage aquaculture.
The project is equipped with a water quality monitoring system, underwater and surface cameras, and a solar-powered smart data gateway.
The project plans to grow 100 tonnes of fish per year, including valuable species such as Gabit, Safi, Hamour, and Sheri.
