Role of the UAE in BRICS
The United Arab Emirates is one of the largest oil exporters in the Middle East. The UAE's entry into BRICS, according to a number of analysts, could take its economy to a new level. Experts see advantages of co-operation with the Emirates (as a global transport and logistics hub) for other countries of the association as well. In particular, we are talking about international trade, cooperation in IT and cyber security, the construction and real estate market, the development of technological business sectors and the growth of investment.
UAE Industry
Main industries: oil and gas, mining, metallurgy, automotive. Oil extraction accounts for 46% of GDP, 36% - services. The country's agriculture is focused on export of dates, dairy products, vegetables, fruits and flowers.
Промышленность ОАЭ
Main industries: oil and gas, metallurgy, textiles, food. Over 40% of GDP comes from the extraction and export of oil and natural gas. The development of water desalination technologies is also of great importance for the country's economy. The agricultural sector relies on vertical farming.
UAE Culture
One of the oldest pockets of civilisation. Burials dating from the 5th to 4th millennia B.C. have been found near Mount Jebel Hafit. Archaeologists have also discovered pottery from Mesopotamia, Iran, Baluchistan and the Indus Valley: evidence that international trade was widespread in these places long before the modern Emirates were established here.
The art of the UAE is subject to Islamic traditions.
A striking example is architecture: even modern buildings express the Arabic style. Arches, fanciful ornaments, mouldings, mosaics mesmerise tourists and locals alike. Khaliji music is popular in this country. It originated more than a thousand years ago when Bedouin poets (indigenous people of the Arabian deserts) recited poems about love and friendship, honour and victories, camels and the strength of the family to the accompaniment of rebab, oud, habban and other national instruments.
UAE in international organisations
The United Arab Emirates is a member of the United Nations (UN), the League of Arab States (LAS), the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
