In South Africa government started rolling out a mass screening and testing program

After twee weeks of lockdown, in South Africa the number of confirmed cases of COVID 19 is now 1845 with 13 fatalities. This is below the expected growth but it is too early to say how effective the lockdown restrictions are. On Monday the country started with a massive screening and testing campaign which will provide more answers.

This is the Elsies River Community clinic. Its servicing an impoverished working class community outside Cape Town. It is also a community with a high prevalence for HIV and TB.

Since Monday government started rolling out a mass screening and testing program.

Around 10 000 field workers will be visiting homes in villages, towns and cities to screen residents for COVID-19 symptoms.

With 495 infected, the Western Cape is the province with the second highest number of Covid 19 cases.
