Belarus conducts 95% of settlements with EAEU countries in national currencies
Belarus, which holds the EAEU presidency this year, is giving priority to increasing the share of settlements in national currencies between the union's member countries
Belarus has achieved significant success in using national currencies in settlements with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
As Roman Golovchenko, Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Belarus, said in an interview with THE FIRST News Channel, 95% of foreign trade operations between Belarus and its EAEU partners are already carried out in Belarusian rubles, Russian rubles and Kazakh tenge, according to BelTA, a partner of TV BRICS.
Golovchenko stressed that in order to further increase the share of settlements in national currencies, it is necessary to switch to pricing goods and services within the EAEU in national currencies. In his opinion, this will be a natural stimulus for the growth of settlements in national currencies.
These issues, as well as the prospects for the creation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Development Bank, the fight against cyber fraud and the introduction of artificial intelligence in the banking sector, will be discussed at the Eurasian Economic Forum, which will be held in Minsk on 26-27 June. The forum will bring together representatives of business, government agencies and international organisations interested in developing cooperation within the EAEU.
