Bird-watching may become separate tourism destination in the Indian state of Uttarakhand

The state's forestry department believes that this will make the region a center of ecotourism

Authorities in the state of Uttarakhand in northern India intend to officially recognize bird watching, or birdwatching, an independent direction of tourism. This is reported by  News9, a partner of TV BRICS.

It is noted that this initiative is a response to the growing interest in bird watching. In this way, the state government plans to attract more tourists to the region and thereby strengthen its economy.

At present, there are more than 15 birdwatching spots in Uttarakhand, including Chopta, Chakrata, Munsiyari and Pangot. The state is home to 268 species of birds, including some rare and unique ones, which attracts amateur ornithologists from all over the world.

In addition, as part of this strategy, the forest department is creating additional infrastructure facilities for birdwatching and organizing annual bird festivals. For instance, in October this year, a three-day festival was held in Mussoorie town to educate locals and tourists about the diversity of birds in the region and the importance of their conservation.
