Blue phenomenon of the supermoon lights up skies around the world

This year, this natural phenomenon began on 19 August and lasted until 21 August morning. This is reported by Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.

Normally, the distance between the Moon and the Earth is 384,000 kilometres, but now the Moon has approached the Earth at a distance of 362,000 kilometres. Because the Earth's satellite's orbit is elliptical, the moon appears larger and 20 per cent brighter than a regular moon, according to Fernando Roig, an astronomer at the National Observatory of Brazil.

The supermoon can be observed from anywhere in the world. 

In 2016, the super moon was 356,000 kilometres from Earth, the shortest distance between the two since 1948. Such an event will only happen again in 2034.
