Bolshoi Theatre ballet troupe to perform world masterpieces in China
The Bolshoi Theatre’s ballet company and orchestra, a partner of TV BRICS, will go on tour to Beijing and Shenzhen in May. The performances are part of the cross Years of Culture between Russia and China (2024-2025).
On 7 and 8 May, the Opera House of the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing will host ballet gala concerts. The programme includes selected excerpts from "Swan Lake", "Romeo and Juliet", "Don Quixote", "Spartacus", "The Flames of Paris", and other ballets. The stars of the troupe will take the stage, including Maria Vinogradova, Ekaterina Varlamova, Maria Koshkareva, Artemy Belyakov, Dmitry Vyskubenko, Egor Gerashchenko, and others. Conductor – Pavel Sorokin.
Later, on 10 and 11 May, Beijing will witness "The Sleeping Beauty" – one of the greatest masterpieces by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Marius Petipa, which returned to the Historic Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre in 2024. In Yuri Grigorovich’s choreographic revision and Simon Virsaladze’s designs, the ballet was revived by Honoured Art Worker of Russia Regina Nikiforova. The lead roles in Beijing will be performed by Arina Denisova, Elizaveta Kokoreva, Eleonora Sevenard (Aurora); Dmitry Vyskubenko, Artem Ovcharenko, Dmitry Smilevsky (Prince Desire); Denis Savin, Igor Tsvirko (the evil fairy Carabosse), and other principal dancers.
The tour will conclude on 14 and 15 May at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Shenzhen, where audiences will also enjoy gala concerts featuring highlights from the world’s ballet repertoire. The orchestra will be conducted by Aleksey Bogorad.
