Brazil achieves 14% increase in PET recycling
Brazil recycled 410,000 tonnes of PET packaging in 2024, marking a 14 per cent rise compared to the 359,000 tonnes recycled in 2022, as reported by Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.
In 2024, 37 per cent of recycled PET resin was used to manufacture new packaging, mainly for bottled water, soft drinks, energy drinks, and other non-alcoholic beverages.
The textile industry ranked second, consuming 24 per cent of the resin, followed by the chemical industry (13 per cent), laminates and sheets (13 per cent), and strapping tapes for packaging and box sealing (10 per cent).
According to the source, government policy and consumer involvement are aimed at maximising recycling and reducing environmental impact.
