Brazil reaches 100,000 milestone in electronic phytosanitary certificates as agricultural trade goes fully digital

Rapid expansion of the new system boosts export efficiency, traceability and global market access for plant-based products

Brazil has surpassed the milestone of 100,000 electronic phytosanitary certificates issued under its ePhyto system, reports Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

Official figures show that the platform has already processed 100,169 electronic certificates covering exports to 130 countries, involving more than 31,000 exporters, over 200 authorised operational sites including ports and airports, and 311 certified agricultural products. The achievement underscores the consolidation of digital certification as a core instrument in Brazil’s agricultural export system.

The system recorded exceptional growth momentum in 2026, with issuance volumes rising by 486 per cent in the first quarter compared to the same period in 2025. This sharp increase reflects the rapid transition from paper-based documentation to fully digital certification processes across the export chain.

Fresh fruit exports dominate Brazil’s certified shipments, accounting for 63.3 per cent of total certificates issued. Mango, papaya and melon lead the product list, followed by coffee, soybeans, watermelon, lime, cotton and grapes, highlighting the breadth and global competitiveness of Brazilian agricultural production.

In logistical terms, maritime transport accounts for around two-thirds of all certified shipments, while air freight represents just over 30 per cent, primarily for high-value perishable goods requiring faster delivery times. Key export gateways include major seaports and international airports, reflecting the system’s integration into Brazil’s main trade infrastructure.

Agricultural authorities emphasised that the milestone demonstrates improved efficiency, security and transparency in export procedures, while reinforcing Brazil’s position in global agricultural markets through streamlined digital certification systems.
