Brazil’s civil aviation hits record high with over 10 million passengers in March
Industry sees historic growth in passenger numbers, international flights, and cargo volume
In March, Brazil's civil aviation sector reached a historic milestone by surpassing 10 million air passengers in a single month for the first time. This growth reflects a broader surge across the industry, with record highs also seen in international flights and air cargo volumes.
More than 10.2 million passengers travelled on both domestic and international routes, marking an 8 per cent increase year over year. Domestic traffic rose by 6 per cent to 7.9 million travellers, while international travel jumped 15.5 per cent, reaching 2.3 million passengers, as reported by the official website of the Brazilian Government.
This upward trend extends to cargo transport as well, with March recording the highest volume of air freight for that month in 25 years: 116,000 tonnes, including over 77,000 tonnes in international shipments. International passenger numbers have been breaking records for several months, and flight activity continues to rise, with over 13,300 international departures in March, the highest for any March since records began in 2000.
Routes within South America, particularly between Brazil and Argentina or Chile, accounted for the majority of this traffic.
