Brazil secures new agricultural export markets in Ethiopia

Agreement expands trade in animal protein and related products, bringing total market openings since 2023 to 574

Brazil has successfully concluded negotiations with Ethiopia to open new export opportunities for a wide range of agricultural products, strengthening bilateral trade ties and expanding its presence in the Horn of Africa, reports Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

The agreement enables the export of several key commodities from Brazil’s agribusiness sector, particularly within the animal protein segment. Newly accessible markets include beef, pork and poultry, along with processed meat products and offal. The arrangement also covers dairy products, fish from both capture and aquaculture, pet food, non-animal-origin feed ingredients, and palatability additives used to enhance animal nutrition.

In addition, the deal facilitates the export of live cattle for slaughter, fattening and breeding, as well as day-old chicks, fertile eggs, fingerlings, and genetic materials such as semen and embryos of goats and sheep. These measures are expected to support agricultural development and food supply diversification in Ethiopia while strengthening Brazil’s role as a reliable global food supplier.

The expansion of market access underscores the growing agricultural partnership between the two countries. It also reflects Brazil’s broader strategy to deepen engagement with emerging markets in Africa and to promote international cooperation in food production and livestock development.

With this latest achievement, Brazil’s agribusiness sector has secured a total of 574 new market openings worldwide since the beginning of 2023, highlighting sustained efforts to enhance global trade integration.

Officials emphasised that the progress results from coordinated diplomatic and technical engagement aimed at aligning sanitary and phytosanitary standards and facilitating smoother trade flows.
