Brazil supports telecom infrastructure and digital TV development
New funding supports mobile connectivity, digital broadcasting and the next generation of free-to-air television
The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), linked to the Ministry of Communications, has announced new investments of US$7 million to advance digital inclusion and expand telecommunications infrastructure across the country, according to the government’s website.
The initiative also extends the deadline for completing projects related to digital television, mobile telephony and the development of the next-generation broadcasting system until 31 December 2027.
According to Communications Minister Frederico de Siqueira Filho, the programme forms part of a strategic effort to modernise the national communications sector.
“We are investing to ensure that more Brazilians have access to high-quality communication. Expanding mobile telephony, strengthening digital TV and developing TV 3.0 are key elements of this agenda,” he said.
The newly allocated resources will support several strategic priorities. Plans include installing additional mobile telephony antennas to expand cellular coverage, maintaining digital TV retransmission stations already operating nationwide, and supporting the development of applications for TV 3.0 in public broadcasting networks.
The technology is expected to deliver ultra-high-definition images, enhanced sound quality and interactive features, bringing traditional television closer to digital media platforms.
