BRICS+ Media Centre screens animated film to celebrate Chinese New Year

Guests also attended a lecture on Spring Festival traditions

The BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre in Moscow hosted a screening of the Chinese animated film "A Girl Named Niu Naitang" (2020, directed by Ju Yuanhao). The event was organised by the TV BRICS International Media Network to mark the celebration of Chinese New Year.

According to Oksana Serpak, Press Secretary of the TV BRICS International Media Network and Head of the BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre, animated screenings are an important part of the centre’s activities. She noted that such events provide the Russian audience with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the finest examples of animation from BRICS countries.

"To celebrate the arrival of Chinese New Year, we presented a wonderful animated film that tells the story of a young Chinese girl learning to build relationships with her family and friends. I believe our young audience will find many familiar traits in Niu Naitang! We are immensely grateful to our Chinese partners for the opportunity to showcase this project, which is highly popular in China," Serpak emphasised.

In addition, guests at the media centre learnt about the traditions of Lunar New Year celebrations. Actress, director, and expert on Chinese musicals Mariya Kuzina delivered an informative lecture on the topic. In an exclusive comment to TV BRICS, she stated that China’s rich culture and centuries-old history attract people from all over the world.

"I really enjoy animated films, as they introduce audiences to Chinese culture in an engaging way. I am delighted to give lectures on Chinese animation, which conveys deep meanings related to China’s philosophy, culture, history, and mythology through simple stories," Kuzina added.

Earlier, the media centre hosted New Year screenings of animated films by directors from BRICS countries. Attendees also explored the cultures of BRICS nations through entertainment contests and lectures.

The BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre was established by the Library for Foreign Literature and TV BRICS in October 2024. Its activities focus on developing and strengthening humanitarian cooperation between different countries, as well as promoting culture, science, and education.
