China completes sowing 97% of the maize planned for the summer
The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs reports that as of now, Chinese farmers have planted spring crops on 23.7 million hectares, or 76.2 per cent of the total area. This is reported by CCTV+, a partner of TV BRICS.
There are still 1.8 million hectares to be sown, accounting for 80 per cent of the average rice crop that has already been planted.
While the sowing of summer soybeans is lagging behind, with 73.5 per cent complete and more than 600,000 hectares remaining, the sowing of summer maize has actually been completed, with 97.1 per cent complete and 390,000 hectares remaining.
The Huanghuaihai region has received professional assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in managing drought and delayed summer sowing. The ministry has also urged local farmers to switch crops in regions where the terrain is too dry for customary crops.
Water allocation has also been standardised by local authorities to guarantee efficient field management and summer sowing.
