China develops the first-ever trackless train
The autonomous rail rapid transit (ART) runs on rubber-clad iron wheels, but it does not need real rails – it only needs special markings on the road surface. Sensors and sensors read it and thus keep the car in the right track. The ART also has a system for detecting pedestrians and obstacles on the track, making it safe.
The new transport technology is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The ART is fully electric and can travel up to 25 kilometres on a ten-minute recharge. In the future, it will only use renewable energy sources to power it, which will lead to lower emissions, according to Toda Palavra, partner of TV BRICS.
"China is a highly investable country that has electrified all vehicles, from the scooter to the high-speed train," Jose Roberto Cardoso, a professor at the Polytechnic School of the University of Sao Paulo, told TV BRICS.
He said research centres at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the University of Sao Paulo are already working in partnership with China to bring these technologies to Brazil.
