China prioritises data security at the 2024 Zhongguancun forum
Innovative solutions are needed when AI is incorporated into more industries
At the Zhongguancun Forum in Beijing, it was noted that further efforts are required to assure the safe and responsible use of AI, especially with the growing priority of data security management, given the anticipated rapid use of generative artificial intelligence technology across multiple industries, according to a source. This was reported by China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS.
A data scientist and the provost of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Guo Yike claims that as AI develops quickly, data security is becoming more and more crucial since data is not only the building block of AI but also a vital resource in the age of the digital economy. Guo stressed the significance of privacy and data protection.
He advocated for enhancing global collaboration and communication, in addition to collaboratively investigating optimal approaches for managing data security. Guo Yike also stated that there should be a greater emphasis on the establishment of international institutional frameworks and policies that oversee data security and guarantee the privacy and confidentiality of information.
Furthermore, he said, cutting-edge technologies like blockchain and encryption can be used to enhance data security and support the ethical, responsible, and transparent implementation of AI.
Some nations, which place a high value on data security management, have been cautious while creating laws pertaining to AI.
Chinese regulators released a 24-point guideline on generative AI service management in August. The nation uses techniques that are compatible with innovation and development to govern the technology and promote the creative development of generative AI. China wants to safeguard data on all fronts by establishing a dependable and trustworthy data control and security system as quickly as feasible.
AI will be extensively employed in cybersecurity, according to technology experts, and will revitalise the data protection sector, which is under attack. Consequently, data security is more crucial than ever, and more work be done to address emerging data security issues.
By 2025, China expects to see the data security market reach US$ 20.7 billion. Additionally, the nation has enacted 20 important policies aimed at establishing data infrastructure and optimising the use of information resources.
