China's railway network exceeds 160,000 kilometres

The total length of railway tracks in China has exceeded 160 thousand kilometres, of which more than 46 thousand kilometres are high-speed railways. This is reported by China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS.

The country has the world's largest high-speed railway network, as well as one of the most advanced. The latest addition is a main line linking the city of Meizhou with Longchuan county in southern China's Guangdong province. The length of this line is 94 kilometres.

It is reported that China's railway infrastructure has expanded significantly since 2012. Its total length has increased by 64.2 per cent and the length of high-speed lines has increased by 392.2 per cent.

China's high-speed rail currently accounts for more than 70 per cent of the total length of the world's high-speed rail network. It covers 96 per cent of the country's cities with a population of more than 500,000.
