Debjit Chakraborty, Executive Director of Chamber for Indo-Russo Technology Collaboration: BRICS university ranking system to be launched through India-Russia partnership

The initiative is expected to become a model for broader technological and educational cooperation across BRICS+ countries

A BRICS university-level ranking system is being developed through cooperation between India and Russia and could later be expanded to other BRICS nations, according to Debjit Chakraborty, Executive Director of the Chamber for Indo-Russo Technology Collaboration.

Speaking in an exclusive interview at the TV BRICS studio in the Roscongress International Cooperation Area at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum ( SPIEF), Chakraborty said the project is being developed together with a major Moscow-based university and will initially be tested between India and Russia.

According to the expert, the initiative forms part of a broader strategy pursued by the Indo-Russia Innopraktika Technology Hub and its partners to create joint technological products and frameworks that can subsequently be introduced across the wider BRICS+ community.

He noted that India and Russia are actively cooperating in a range of deep-tech sectors, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, health technology, educational technology and trusted digital infrastructure. The partners are also discussing projects in green energy, some of which have already made significant progress.

He added that jointly developed Indo-Russian solutions could serve as a template for other BRICS and Global South countries, including markets in the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia.

"Everything we are doing is intended to encompass the entire BRICS+ community, not just India and Russia," he emphasised.

Chakraborty also expressed confidence that initiatives such as the BRICS+ Tech Forum and joint sovereign technology projects could strengthen technological self-reliance across the group and contribute to the emergence of a common innovation ecosystem for BRICS countries.
