Egypt strengthens social assistance with US$12.5 billion allocation for 2025
Egypt has reinforced its commitment to social welfare by allocating approximately US$12.5 billion for social protection in the fiscal year 2025. This is reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.
This funding aims to improve living standards through subsidised goods, housing support, healthcare services, and financial assistance, ensuring economic stability and greater social equity.
Speaking at the International Conference on Management 2025 in Cairo, Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy highlighted the nation’s leadership in conditional cash transfer programmes, which currently support 4.7 million families – benefiting approximately 17 million individuals.
Over the past decade, the initiative has enhanced its efficiency through digital integration, linking over 25 national databases to establish a comprehensive social registry covering 12 million families and nearly 50 million individuals.
The Egyptian Parliament recently approved a new social security law aimed at strengthening the nation’s social safety net. The law extends coverage to previously uninsured individuals, reinforcing social justice as mandated by the Egyptian Constitution.
It prioritises support for vulnerable groups while promoting conditional assistance to enhance human capital, economic empowerment, and expanded opportunities for Egyptian women.
