Egypt to establish seven logistics corridors by 2030

The initiative is being implemented in line with the national sustainable development strategy

Egypt's leadership plans to create seven integrated logistics corridors in the country, which will connect major industrial, agricultural and mining regions with seaports. The project is being implemented on the initiative of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, writes Sada El-Balad, a partner of TV BRICS.

It is noted that the corridors will also connect the ports of the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. The initiative involves the creation of an extensive railway network and the construction of roads passing through dry ports and logistics zones.

Key transport corridors will include the following:

  • "Sokhna – Alexandria" will link the port of Ain Sokhna on the eastern coast of the Gulf of Suez with the major industrial zones and the port of Alexandria;
  • "Arish – Taba" will connect the port of Arish on the Mediterranean Sea with the port of Taba, serving areas in the Sinai Peninsula;
  • "Cairo – Alexandria" will provide a link between the capital, Sadat dry port and the port of Alexandria;
  • "Tanta – Mansoura – Damietta" will connect the agricultural areas of Lower Egypt to the port of Damietta;
  • "Gargoub – Salloum" will expand trade between Egypt and Libya through the largest dry port in Salloum;
  • "Cairo – Aswan – Abu Simbel" includes the construction of a high-speed railway network, aims to support Upper Egypt's logistics zones and develop agricultural areas;
  • "Safaga – Qena – Abu Tartour" will ensure the transport of goods through the Safaga port on the Red Sea, as well as new logistics hubs.

The transport corridors project aims to transform the state into a regional centre for logistics and transit trade.
