Ethiopia and African Development Bank to expand long-term partnership across multiple sectors, including infrastructure

Ethiopia and the African Development Bank are seeking closer coordination in infrastructure transformation, macroeconomic reforms, agriculture, energy and climate issues. These topics were discussed during a meeting between Semereta Sewasew, State Minister of Finance for Economic Cooperation of Ethiopia, and a bank delegation led by Executive Director Kafrin Ronald Justin, reports Ethiopian News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

“Beyond financing, the Bank’s engagement demonstrates strong confidence in Ethiopia’s reform trajectory and long-term development vision,” Sewasew said.

Infrastructure development remains a central focus of the partnership. Among the flagship initiatives is the Bishoftu airport megaproject. The planned major aviation hub in Ethiopia is expected to improve logistics and strengthen regional connectivity across the continent. The bank also continues to support the development of strategic transport corridors, urban infrastructure, and water supply and sanitation systems that are vital for economic transformation.

Ethiopia is seeking to become a regional hub for green energy, with bank commitments heavily concentrated in the energy sector. During the talks, the participants also discussed climate finance, the development of low-carbon infrastructure and preparations for the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2027 (COP32), which will take place in Ethiopia.

Both sides agreed on the need to increase the role of the private sector in Ethiopia’s transition towards a more competitive model of economic growth.

Agricultural transformation also received particular attention during the discussions. In particular, participants examined the poultry value chain. According to experts, the sector holds strong potential for job creation, food security and higher rural incomes while supporting the development of the agro-industrial complex.
