Ethiopia develops programme to cultivate green culture

The Green Legacy Programme is bearing its first fruits

In the first phase of GLI, Ethiopia planted 25 billion seedlings in fruits, agroforests, and forests, surpassing the target of 20 billion plants. The second phase, which will last for the next four years, will see the planting of 25 billion seedlings in different agro-ecologies. This is reported by Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC), a partner of TV BRICS.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed highlighted the impressive results of the Green Legacy initiative, stressing that fruit trees planted under the programme have started bearing fruit.

In a social media post, he emphasised the importance of continuing efforts to improve planting methods, investing in innovative technologies, and working closely with the community to achieve environmental and agricultural goals.

Since its launch in 2019, the Green Legacy Initiative has enabled Ethiopia to plant tens of billions of trees, significantly increasing the country's forest area from 17.20 per cent to 23.60 per cent in five years.
