Ethiopia opens new bridge

The inauguration of this landmark structure represents a leap in trade and tourism development

Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, led the opening ceremony of the bridge over the Abay River in Bahir Dar, the capital of the Amhara region, marking a major milestone in the country's infrastructure development. This is reported by ENA.

The bridge, a monumental project overseen by the federal government and started 4.5 years ago, has an impressive length of 380 metres with a width of 43 metres, three lanes on each side and a dedicated bike lane.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stressed the importance of this modern bridge as a cornerstone for economic growth and connectivity in the region, symbolising unity and collective progress.

In his address, he emphasised the crucial role of infrastructure projects like the Abay River Bridge in strengthening national cohesion and bridging divides for a harmonious future.

As emphasised by the Prime Minister, the bridge demonstrates the country's commitment to transcend regional boundaries and promote cooperation among all citizens.

The Government's efforts, exemplified by the opening of the Abay River Bridge, also extend to ongoing projects, such as the Lake Gorgora and Lake Logo initiatives, aimed at ensuring sustainable development and prosperity for future generations.

With a focus on unity, peace and sustainable progress, the region is poised to capitalise on the opportunities presented by this transformative infrastructure.
